The Best Skin Care Regimen for Acne-Prone Skin

TeaMD Facial cleanserSticking to a consistent skin care routine is the absolute best thing you can do to care for your skin. But since all skin types are different, skin care routines are not one-size-fits-all. Here are three essential steps you’ll need to have in your skin care routine if you have oily, acne-prone skin.

Cleanse

This may seem like a no-brainer, but your skin needs to be cleansed every day, morning and night.  You’ll want to choose an acne-fighting cleanser that is designed to clear pores and fight bacteria. There are a lot of products on the market claiming to treat acne, yet many of them contain harsh chemicals, so keep that in mind as you’re looking for a solution that’s right for you. Tea tree oil is a natural bacteria fighter that works well on acne and, of course, it’s something that we’re more than a little partial to, for obvious reasons.

Exfoliate

It’s important to exfoliate acne-prone skin to stop acne where it starts: in the pores. Exfoliating rids pores of excess skin and oil and also leaves your skin nice and soft. Some cleansers come with a built-in exfoliant, but it’s also very easy to make your own with a bit of sugar and honey. You may not need to exfoliate your skin every day, but three to four times a week is a must for acne-prone skin.

Moisturize

What? Moisturize oily skin? It may sound crazy, but all skin needs moisturization to be healthy. If your skin is oily, choose an oil-free moisturizer – there are lots of great options out there. If it’s oily and acne-prone, you might also want to add back a little oil – just a drop of tea tree oil in your moisturizer will help it fight your acne as it moisturizes your face.

Acne-prone skin can be managed, but consistency is key. Don’t let your problem skin get you down! You only get one face, so make it a priority to keep that skin healthy day in and day out. Take control of it with the consistent (can we say religious?) use of the right products, and it won’t take long to see the difference.
